“Honest leadership means telling you the truth about what’s happening to our schools, our water, and our healthcare – and then doing something about it. I’m committed to fighting for the families of District 61. That’s my promise to you.”

Candidate For Iowa House District 61
Expand Access to Healthcare
Healthcare in Iowa isn’t just struggling, it’s collapsing. And it’s working families who are paying the price. While parts of District 61 have access to UnityPoint or MercyOne, families in surrounding communities are watching their hospitals disappear. Every time a rural hospital closes it dumps those patients into our emergency rooms, overwhelming our providers and putting lives at risk. My wife Kristina sees it firsthand as a pediatrician. She sees the kids who had to wait too long for care, the families who drove hours because their local hospital shut down, and the mental health needs going unmet because there aren’t enough providers to step up.
For families in smaller towns, a hospital closure means watching the clock tick while help is miles away. And right now, far too few providers are available to meet the mental health crisis tearing through Black Hawk County and beyond.
I swear to fight like hell to keep our hospitals open, expand mental health services, and defend the healthcare coverage our families depend on. I’ll work with providers, communities, and anyone, Republican or Democrat, who’s ready to build a system that doesn’t leave a single Iowan behind.
Protect Our Water
The water crisis in Iowa is everywhere. It’s in the water our families drink every single day, the rivers our kids swim in, and the wells our rural neighbors rely on to survive. The contaminants poisoning our water are linked to cancer, birth defects, and thyroid disease, proved by the fact that Iowa has the second-highest cancer rate in the nation. This needs to be addressed ASAP. Every year we wait, more families get sick. Every year we delay, the cost gets higher and the damage gets worse.
I’ll stand shoulder to shoulder with family farmers like mine, who are ready to be part of the solution, because this isn’t about pointing fingers. It’s about saving lives. Together, we’ll implement sustainable practices that protect our drinking water, our health, and the family farms that have been the backbone of the Cedar Valley for generations.
Strengthen Public Education
Our public schools built the Cedar Valley. They prepared generations of Iowa kids for good jobs, strong families, and thriving communities. My mom was a public school teacher who fought every day for kids that weren’t even hers, and she was only able to do it because the schools were funded. Strong public schools made me who I am today and that’s why it’s a tragedy to watch how a decade of deliberate underfunding has crippled Iowa’s public schools. The Waterloo Community School District has been forced to lay off teachers and staff. The recent AEA cuts have ripped away special education support and professional development our schools have counted on for years, leaving our most vulnerable students behind.
I’ll fight to restore full funding to our public schools so we can shrink class sizes, support our teachers, and give every kid the education they deserve. I’ll work to protect and restore the AEA services our students and teachers depend on, because gutting support for kids with disabilities isn’t a budget solution, it’s a betrayal.
And I’ll push to make childcare and preschool accessible and affordable for every Iowa family, because when we invest in our kids from day one, we give them the best shot at success, and we give Iowa the workforce and community it needs to thrive.
This isn’t complicated. You fund schools, you support teachers, you invest in kids, and you build a future worth fighting for.
